Withering Tree

Withering tree
give your beauty
to me
raging storm
give all your strength
to me
because
my collapsing arms
have died in defeat
There's too much
to discern
from this back seat
what will we do
when this shallow world
breaks open
and bleeds?
I've slipped my finger
inside the holes
but I can't hold
the sea
would you come and wrap
your arms
come and wrap them
around me

Heavy Misfortune

Paddling up stream
taking in water
press against
the shore
never been here before
the trees all bend and sway
while the birds all scatter
its getting hotter
than ever before

You can't scratch the itch
you'll make the floodgates break
you can't push the dam
with just a little taste
make me forget
don't make me wait
I've been biding my time
Now let the water take

I can feel the heat
trail my hands across
the wall
getting darker in this place
getting daker all around
oh my eyes, my eyes
they deceive me, now
oh my lips, my lips
they won't scream aloud

The waters coming in
its coming in  now
licking cross my toes
curling all around
I'll be drowning in the
waves
its catching up too fast
here it is at last
head under water

Mauraders on the town

Robbery runs thick through this town
gun slingin and violent
throw downs
come in like a thief in the dark
leave me stranded
with a broken heart
lone
rider on the open road
stretching for miles
till heaven knows
take take take
take as much as you can
won't be coming this way
again
golden sands tickle at your face
memorize the sun
remember this place
wind at your back you fly
got somewhere to be
tonight
take take take
take as much as you can
won't ever be coming
this way again
ride the storms
ride the wind
ride like the vultures
when they spin and spin
take take take
take as much as you can
won't be coming back
this way again

This is where it all
comes down
to the point of
you and the world
beginning fresh
like a tidal wave
rushing
I long to exist.
Spinning, circling, diving
coming up for air
I'm barely breathing
sputtering for one
single moment
to pass me through.
I know, I know, I know
that I need to keep
pushing harder still
stay above the pressing waves
before I am lost.
But me, I am a fool
I lay here on my back
resist the truth
letting it all around me
splash and suck me down.
Take it out
take it out, take it out
all you dedicated soldiers
we keep on getting so much older
and we can't battle time.
Floating now
just absorbing
gentle water slowly lapping
at my ankles
and for one blissful second
I am free.

untitled

It was the middle
of a January snowstorm
the winds were hailing
and we were sailing, sailing
The way you looked at me
was far more than
what was gentlemanly
and until then
I had you pegged
with mediocrity
With the sun
came the summer
and all the birds were listening
in the park
where you showed me your
true face
So here we sit
for a little bit
on this imaginary coastline
making catcalls at the water
rushing by
and all along I kept wondering
just who are you to
think you are the love
of my life
but you'd be right,
you'd be right
